DataKeeper
User Manual
1.
Description
DataKeeper was designed for
keeping any kind of data, such as CD collection, car maintenance
log, password, credit card info, bank account info, friends¡¯
birthday etc. The idea is very simple: field labels are
changeable. If you tap on field label column, a popup list
will show up (Fig. 6). Then you can choose any field label
from the list. Thus you can turn DataKeeper into Address
Book, CD Collector, and Password Keeper etc. simply by changing
the field labels.
DataKeeper has 16 fields
and one note field. 14 built-in data types (see Fig. 2)
and 47 built-in field labels. You can create up to 10 data
types and up to 32 field labels. Thus, you will have total
24 data types and 79 filed labels plus one note field.
DataKeeper uses blowfish
encryption algorithm to secure your sensitive data, such
as password, credit card info, and bank account info. For
each record, you can set it to be encrypted simply by select
the check
box shown in Fig. 4.
You can also setup a password
to protect your data. Once you setup a password, you need
provide password to login. If you forget the password, you
will no longer be able to access your data and you have
to delete the password. To do so, encrypted data or all
of your data will be lost.
Note: DataKeeper32 is
an enhanced version of DataKeeper with 32 fields and no
built-in fields labels and data type. It is more powerful
and flexible, and gives you more freedom compared with DataKeeper.
You can create up to 80 field labels and 20 data types.
You can download DataKeeper32 at:

How to use
Let¡¯s go through important screens
and menus one by one to illustrate how to use this software.
I will call each screen according to the name show at left-top
corner or middle of the top. For example, the screen shown
in Fig. 1 is called ¡°Data List¡± Screen.
- Data List Screen:
This screen lists all of the data you have. It is similar
to the address book¡¯s first screen. The functionality of
Look Up field is the same as that in address book. Tapping
on New button will bring you to ¡°Choose Data Type¡± Screen
shown in Fig. 2.
(Fig. 1)
- Choose Data Type Screen:
There are 14 built-in data type and an ¡°Other¡± data type.
Each data type has its own default field labels. You can
create your own data type (see ¡°Create Your Own Data Type¡±
Screen, Fig. 8). The data types you created will appear
in the popup list (Fig. 3) when you tap on ¡°Other¡± check
box. You can also create your own field labels (see ¡°Create
Your Own Field Label¡± Screen Fig. 9). Tapping OK button
will lead you to ¡°Data Edit¡± Screen (Fig. 4). When you choose
one of the data type, the category of the record will be
set to the same as the data type you selected. For example,
if you chose ¡°Bank Account¡±, then the category of the record
will be ¡°Bank Account¡±. But if you delete ¡°Bank Account¡±
from the category list or there is no ¡°Bank Account¡± category,
the category of the record will be set to be ¡°Unfile¡±. So
when you create your own data type, you also need to create
exactly the same name in the category list in order to automatically
set the category of the record to be the data type selected.
- Data Edit Screen:
The usage of this screen is similar as address book¡¯s ¡°Address
Edit¡± screen. You can create or edit your data here. If
you tap on the data column of date or time type field, a
date or time pickup screen will appear, you can pickup a
date or time. For example, if you tap on the data column
of ¡°Expire date¡±, the Date pickup screen appears (Fig. 5).
If you select check box, the record will be encrypted. If
you uncheck it, the record will not be encrypted. If you
want change the field labels, simply click on the label
you want to change, a popup list is shown up (Fig. 6). It
contains all of available field labels including built-in
labels and labels you created.
